Troubleshooting
If you encounter any trouble or errors while launching your store, you can refer to the troubleshoot guide below to handle the situation. None of these errors mean that you've broken something - the exact wording on your screen may different from the headings here.
One thing to note - failed attempts don't cost you money as the setup attempt undoes itself.
You need a payment method
- What it means: Your Railway account has no card on it, and Railway won’t create anything billable without one.
- What to do: Add a card, then also check your plan to make sure it's Hobby plan and above. Then tell it to try again.
You're over a limit, or the plan is too small
- What it means: You have a card on file, but the account is still on a trial or free tier that can’t keep six services and a database running.
- What to do: Move onto Hobby plan or higher in Railway’s billing settings, then tell it to try again. This is the single most common sticking point.
Something failed once, then worked
- What it means: Some failures are environmental rather than real - a permission that only applies inside a restricted sandbox, or a login code that was already used.
- What to do: Nothing. A good assistant works this out and says so. If it just retries

without explaining, ask
Explain what actually went wrong in plain language.
The workflow has stopped and is waiting for you
- What it means: This one isn’t a fault. Reaching a question is the normal way this works, it hits
something only you can decide and it asks, rather than guessing. - What to do: Read the last message and answer it. If you can’t tell what it
wants, ask
What exactly are you waiting on from me? Please list it as simple steps.
